Lemon Loaf Cake - Tuesdays With Dorie

This week’s Tuesdays With Dorie is Lemon Loaf Cake. I was really excited because I absolutely love lemon plus the recipe sounded simple – whisk everything together, pour into the pan, and bake. No chilling, no kneading dough, no cutting anything out. Mix and bake. In fact, it took longer to bake than to actually make the batter.

As I was planning to make this, other TwDers said the cake was a little dry and recommended a glaze or a sauce. Who doesn’t love pound cake with glaze anyway? I mixed together 3/4 cup powdered sugar and juice from one lemon half and poured over the cake after it completely cooled. I almost made a lemon curd but time escaped me.

The cake was a little dry; however, it wasn’t the-recipe-didn’t-work-out dry. It was this-is-what-pound-cake-tastes-like dry. Or at least it reminded me of pound cakes I’ve had in the past. I’m guessing it is meant to be eaten with coffee or tea and not as a stand-alone cake. I do agree that it needed a glaze, so thank you to those who suggested it!

Although I enjoy this for breakfast, I don’t think I’d make this recipe again. It is a reliable pound cake recipe if I absolutely needed one, but it wasn’t anything to write home about. Not like the rugelach or chocolate truffle tartlettes we did a few weeks ago.

Huge thank you to the hosts this week - Truc of Treats and Michelle of The Beauty of Life! Next time there will be Hungarian Shortbread. And since I’m going on vacation in mid-May, hopefully I can squeeze in the Pecan Sticky Buns too.

I think I agree - this was nice, but not jump up and down great.

Very lovely loaf!

I thought Dorie's regular pound cake was dry. I've had moist pound cakes - I don't accept that they should be dry.

This sure looks pretty anyway.

Gorgeous cake! And yes, a glaze is essential!

I made a curd to go with mine and it gave it some more lemon umph. Wish I would have gone with a glaze! It was very sturdy and dry. I think it would be a great base for Strawberry Shortcake though.

I didn't find it too dry, either. I did find that I loved it with lemon curd. Your glaze looks lovely on the loaf.

Yum, this looks delicious! I have been buying lemons by the armful lately, and cooking with them every chance I get. I better add this to the list!
