Cauliflower "Steaks" with Olive Relish and Tomato Sauce

Fact: I love vegetables. When I go to a restaurant, I usually order something meatless like a portabella mushroom sandwich, a spinach salad, or a broccoli and pepper sandwich. I get carried away buying all kinds of produce at the farmer’s markets. However, as much as I love vegetables, I could never be a vegetarian. Sorry to disappoint, but I blame the bacon.

What carnivores don’t realize is vegetarian meals are not boring. Take these cauliflower steaks for example. After taking a bite, I kept asking myself why don’t I eat cauliflower more often? This recipe intrigued me when I saw it in Bon Appetit’s magazine, and based on comments from Twitter, others are intrigued by it too.

Digital Scale from OXO Giveaway!

What’s on your kitchen wish list? Is it a new appliance? New utensils because your plastic ones melted? Perhaps nice plates for photo taking? I started writing down my wish list because every time I’m asked for gift ideas, my mind draws a blank (actually, all I can think of is a stand mixer, but I can’t expect anyone to spend $200+ on me…). One tool that serious bakers swear by is a digital scale. Weigh your ingredients; don’t measure them! I see that advice constantly, so I put it on my wish list. It was at the bottom, an item I will never get, but guess what I own now thanks to OXO?

Irish Soda Bread - Tuesdays With Dorie

I am honored to be hosting Tuesdays With Dorie today! I think it’s quite funny I was chosen for Irish Soda Bread because I spent a semester abroad overseas in Ireland. In fact, the reason this blog was born was because I had trouble coping with my homesickness during my last month. Of course this bread brings back memories. Funny that I never ate much of it in Ireland. I think my friend’s mom made it for me once or twice and I may have bought it at the store once. The best part is it takes 4 ingredients, 5-10 minutes to prepare, and 50 minutes to bake.

Shamrock Shake With Bailey's Whipped Cream

I very rarely eat at McDonald's, not because I don't like the food (I enjoy the burgers very much actually), but because of how unhealthy it is. I'm no health nut, but the less I eat of it, the better I feel. Well that theory goes completely out the window for two months out of the year when Shamrock Shakes are back. Seriously I think I've had about four this season (ok maybe five). If you aren't familiar with them, they are mint milkshakes (think mint chocolate chip but without the chocolate chip). In case you aren't aware of how McDonald's food is prepared, the shakes are made with this powdered mixture added to whatever they call "ice cream". Total yum right? I'm a huge believer in making things from scratch, so why don't I make my own Shamrock Shakes (seriously, why didn't I do this earlier)? Four ingredients, one which is completely optional if you are against food coloring.

Blood Orange Tartlettes - #SundaySupper

Happy #SundaySupper everyone! Thanks to Isabel, Sundays on Twitter are being dedicated to spending Sunday dinner around the family table. Of course I don't have anybody to physically eat with me, but I know I can count on my Twitter friends to chat while I'm eating ;) Our theme for this week is a Springtime Menu. I've been eying up this Blood Orange Tart I saw on Crumb Blog, and to me springtime = citrus. Let's dig in!

Irish Cream Swirl Brownies + McCormick Giveaway

Happy March everyone! This month puts me in the mood for mint, shepherd's pie, and corned beef. It also makes me homesick for Ireland. I studied abroad in Ireland for a semester, so March is a rough time because I want to go back. I saw a sign at the store that said "I left my heart in Ireland." Truth. So if I can't go to Ireland, I'll just bring Ireland to my kitchen, starting with these Irish Cream Brownies. A fudgy brownie layer topped with an Irish cream cheese layer.

Rugelach - Tuesdays With Dorie

Today’s Tuesdays With Dorie is a Jewish cookie called rugelach. I’ve heard of rugelach but was a little thrown off when the picture showed it as spiral cookies. The recipe has you roll the dough up jelly-roll style then slice and bake rather than traditionally roll them up as crescents. Rolling it up into a log makes it easier because you aren’t cutting out all these squares to roll up and you can freeze one and slice it if you need last-minute cookies.

Moosey's Monthly Round-Up - February 2012

Welcome to the first Moosey's Monthly Round-Up! I am totally stealing this idea from Juanita's Cocina (thanks Jen!). The difference is I don't blog enough weekly, so I'm making it monthly. The purpose of the round-up is to highlight what I've been up to the past month and share five recipes from other foodies (had to limit bc I find too many!) Shall we begin?
